Sports Romance!

A Guest Post

by, Sydney Aaliyah Michelle

I love reading. I love sports. I love romance.

I love reading sports romances.

I am not an expert, but I have a few requirements for my sports romance reads.

1.  They have to be accurate. You have to get your facts straight when it comes to the sport. While most readers don't care, there will be those readers, like me who know EVERYTHING about the game of football. If you don't get a fact straight, I throw a yellow flag and step away from the book.
2.  You can't shy away from the sports. If you are writing about a professional or collegiate athlete, the sport is part of these people’s lives, especially during the season. Don't make it an after thought.
3.  Write about the romance in the contexts of the athlete's life. If the male main character plays football, he can't go on a trip to Vegas in the fall. If he's a baseball player, he won't be attending a wedding in the summer. If the female main character is going to run away, I'm sorry, but he's not going to be able to chase after you until after the game. And I can not stress this enough, if you are in a football stadium, there is no circumstance short of you dying in the stand will the game stop down so he can give you a passionate wet kiss.
I know what your thinking, but it's so romantic. No it's not, it's weird and literally impossible.
But, I will give you one ... that whole thing about no sex before a game or competition, total myth. So characters can go at it all night, but he's most likely not going to blow off the game to stay in bed, so don't expect him to. He's not being an asshole, it's his job.

There are authors out there doing awesome sport romances.
My top five sport romance writers:

Elle Kennedy - the author of The Deal. An amazing hockey romance with sexy characters. Kennedy gets her facts straight.

J. Sterling - the author of The Perfect Game, a college baseball sports romance, full of emotion and with a strong female main character.

C.M. Doporto - the author of Opposing Sides, C.M writes both college football and baseball in her story to create a well-done sport romance triangle.

Mariana Zapata - the author of The Wall of Winnepeg and Me. This is a big book, but a great story. As a former assistant to a professional athlete, I could relate. The hate to love story is so well done.

Twyla Turner - the author of Chasing Day. We have music and sports, life long best friends turned lovers; it took a lot of synchronizing to get this couple together and Twyla coordinates it well.

If you want to win an ecopy of each of these books, please visit my Facebook Page (http://on.fb.me/1C235oR), like my page and tell me you love sports romance. I'll pick an entry at random to receive ecopies of all five books.
